R. Thomas Amis

Tom Amis is Chairman of Amis, Patel & Brewer, LLP, a law firm focused on the renewable energy and sustainability sectors.  Tom, together with several longstanding colleagues, founded APB in 2017 after a 30-year career at several major international law firms in New York and Washington.  The firm was founded in the belief that a boutique firm, focused on the renewable energy and sustainability sectors with an emphasis on client service by senior practitioners, could offer a superior value proposition to clients.

Tom’s practice has focused on domestic and international infrastructure development and finance since the mid-1980’s.  For the last 20 years, his work has been exclusively concentrated in the renewable energy and sustainability sectors.  He has represented developers, contractors and financing parties in all aspects of the development, financing and construction of sustainable energy projects.  Representative technologies include solar, wind (onshore and offshore), biomass, waste to energy and energy storage.  He is also experienced in the design and implementation of distributed production business models for energy generation and energy efficiency deployment.  Together with colleagues at APB, he has pioneered the application of project development and financing structures in the controlled environment agriculture sector.  He has consistently received a top ranking from Chambers Global for his renewable energy and sustainability work.

His international work includes service as Senior Commercial Counsel at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. At OPIC and afterwards, Tom worked on financing transactions throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Tom has served as adjunct professor of project finance and renewable energy at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.  He currently is a senior advisor to Spark Fund LLC, a provider of innovative financing solutions for efficiency retrofits for commercial and industrial buildings. His non-profit activities include service as a Trustee of the Yale Sustainable Food Program and service as a Trustee of The Nature Conservancy Mid-Atlantic chapter.
